- EPA's Brownout Prevention Tool Box (April 3, 2001) -- Last summer EPA developed strategies to help prevent electric power disruptions which result when demand exceeds supply on particularly hot days. In addition to disruptions in service, these periods of high demand can cause additional air emissions due to, among other things, less efficient emergency generation sources. EPA's "Brownout Prevention Tool Box" includes tips for reducing demand and encouraging the use of cleaner back-up sources that are also relevant for the upcoming summer. It includes specific outreach strategies, sample public service announcements, fact sheets for businesses and residences, a model press release, a list of regional contacts on power reliability and other information.
- EPA Documents Related to Regulating Mercury and Other Hazardous Air Pollutant (HAP) Emissions From Coal- and Oil-Fired Power Plants (December 14, 2000) -- EPA has decided to establish regulations on emissions of mercury and other hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions from coal- and oil-fired power plants. EPA must now develop the regulations and propose them by December 2003. Final regulations are due by December 2004. Click here to view the press release on this announcement.
